Political Awareness and Involvement

LeQIOEjA

Social Action Mission: to promote leadership, advocacy, and empowerment among members to bring about effective solutions to social change.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. remains committed to service through social action since our founding in 1913. Our 22 Founders participated in the Suffrage March of 1913 and our members have been at the forefront of social and political struggles ever since.

The South Jersey Alumnae Chapter Social Action Committee advocates for the Sorority’s predetermined positions, objectives, and provides information and direction to our members on current civil rights issues. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has become an integral part of the movement to secure equal political, educational, and economic rights for all Black people.

Our members are engaged in a variety of social action activities focused on enacting laws and policies to sustain and expand the rights and privileges of citizenship to all people and to protect the most vulnerable amongst us.

These activities include:

  • Voter registration, education, and mobilization

  • Human Trafficking Awareness

  • Educating the community on public policy issues

  • Research and advocacy of critical issues

  • Red Envelope writing
