Educational Development

The Educational Development Committee is one of the busiest of our chapter and is the foundation of our Five Point Program Thrust. Each year we conduct projects designed to promote excellence in education in our schools and communities. In addition we offer scholarships to graduating high school seniors and merit awards to graduating eighth grade students in memory of two sorors from our chapter.

Our calendar is full as you can see from our planned activities:

  • SAT Prep Workshops for High school students
  • Story Time Reading at a Women’s shelter (Anna Sample House) and Daycare center (OEO)
  • Tutoring at Victory House (Teen shelter)
  • Co-Sponsor a Financial Aid Workshop at a Bethany Baptist Church
  • Sponsor an Oratorical Contest at Overbrook and Woodbury High Schools-Awards savings bonds
  • Sponsor an 8th Grade Essay Contest for students in our service area- Award savings bonds
  • Collecting Books for donation to a Library in Jamaica
  • Read Across America Project with Camden High School and Elementary Students
  • Teen Summit on Educational topics in Bridgeton, NJ
  • Project SEE Workshop with Delta GEMS and Delta Academy teens
  • Provide 8th grade Aletha Wright Merit Awards to Camden students- Award savings bonds
  • Award Julia Polk Parham Scholarships to graduating high school students in our service area
